A woman in her fifties lost her life on Wednesday, October 4, after a sniper from the Houthi militia shot her while she was inside her home in the Maqbana district of Taiz, southwestern Yemen.
The victim, identified as Saida Mohammed Ahmed Abdullah, suffered a direct gunshot wound to the head. The sniper, positioned on one of the surrounding hills, targeted her while she was in her residence in the village of Al-Tarah, located in the Al-Qahifa area of Maqbana.
Human rights sources report that this tragic incident is part of a broader pattern of continuous violations committed by the Iranian-backed Houthi militia against civilians in frontline areas of the province. Sniping and indiscriminate targeting of homes have become prominent tactics used by the Houthis to instill fear among rural residents.
The killing of Saida Mohammed Ahmed Abdullah underscores the urgent need for international attention to the ongoing violence in Yemen. As the conflict continues, civilians remain at significant risk, highlighting the dire humanitarian situation in the region.
