The "Masam" project, dedicated to clearing landmines in Yemen, successfully destroyed 4,620 pieces of munitions and war remnants in Abyan Governorate. These dangerous materials were planted by the Iranian-backed Houthi militia.
In a recent statement, the Masam media office confirmed that the project conducted a significant operation to eliminate a large quantity of unexploded ordnance in the Wadi Dofas area of Zinjibar District, Abyan. This initiative aims to enhance community safety and protect civilian lives.
The first special operations team executed the mission, resulting in the destruction of 4,620 pieces of munitions. The breakdown includes 155 assorted shells, 235 various fuses, 85 armor-piercing steel arrows, 4,096 assorted rounds, 13 anti-personnel mines, 5 anti-tank mines, and 31 hand grenades.
Engineer Munther Qassem, the leader of the first special operations team, stated that the operation took place in a secure area, far from residential and agricultural zones. He emphasized that the team adhered strictly to international standards despite facing field challenges.
The Masam project continues its humanitarian mission across various governorates plagued by landmines and war remnants. Their goal is to clear the land and ensure the safe return of life to local communities.
