The Yemen Customs Authority, in collaboration with the Higher Authority for Medicines and specialized security agencies, has successfully thwarted a significant attempt to smuggle a large shipment of hazardous chemicals and controlled medications. This operation, which took place at the Al-Wadiah border crossing in Hadhramaut, uncovered the shipment cleverly concealed within innocent-looking cargo.
According to the Customs Authority, the confiscated items included:
Abdul Haq Lahsan, the Director General of Al-Wadiah Customs, stated that the seizure is in line with the government’s commitments to international agreements and compliance with customs laws. He reassured the public that customs personnel will remain vigilant against any goods that may threaten national, regional, or international security, as well as public health and the environment.
This operation underscores the Yemeni government’s ongoing efforts to combat smuggling and protect citizens from the dangers posed by hazardous chemicals. Securing border crossings and enhancing cooperation among relevant authorities are crucial steps in ensuring community safety.
