On Monday evening, Dr. Sha’if Mohsen Al-Zandani, Yemen’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, attended the 165th session of the Arab League Council at the ministerial level in Amman, Jordan. This meeting included a consultative session for Arab foreign ministers.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Al-Zandani expressed gratitude to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, led by His Majesty King Abdullah II, for graciously hosting this session. He also extended his appreciation to the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Arab League for their outstanding efforts in preparing for the meeting and promoting Arab consultation.
Dr. Al-Zandani thanked Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the Secretary-General of the Arab League, for his significant contributions during challenging times in the region. He praised Aboul Gheit’s dedication to defending Arab issues and highlighted his extensive diplomatic experience as a guiding light for future generations.
The Prime Minister congratulated Dr. Nabil Fahmy on his appointment as the new Secretary-General of the Arab League. He expressed hope that this new leadership would further develop joint Arab efforts and enhance the League’s effectiveness in addressing challenges and maintaining Arab security and stability.
During the consultative meeting, Dr. Al-Zandani reviewed the latest developments in Yemen and the surrounding region. He outlined the Yemeni government’s vision for peace and discussed the challenges facing the Arab world. He emphasized the need for enhanced Arab solidarity and the activation of mechanisms for joint Arab action to tackle current threats, particularly the dangers posed by Houthi militias to regional security and international navigation.
Dr. Al-Zandani reiterated his appreciation for the support provided by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Yemen and its people across various sectors. He acknowledged Saudi Arabia’s pivotal role in peace efforts and its commitment to strengthening state institutions while alleviating the suffering of citizens. He also recognized the support from other Arab and international allies during this exceptional period.
The Prime Minister urged for improved Arab coordination and the development of joint action mechanisms. He stressed the importance of enabling Arab nations to respond effectively to regional and international changes, protect Arab national security, and confront external interventions and threats to regional stability.
The meeting also included Dr. Jalal Ibrahim Faqira, Yemen’s Ambassador to Jordan, and Ambassador Mohammed Al-Zandani, Head of the Arab World Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
