Children killed in Al-Dhale’e highlight a humanitarian crisis caused by Houthi landmines.

Minister Condemns Tragic Houthi Attack on Innocent Children

Minister of Information, Muammar Al-Eryani, has condemned the horrific crime committed by Houthi militias, supported by the Iranian regime. This attack resulted in the deaths of four children and injured several others due to an explosion from unexploded ordnance in the village of Al-Ribi in the Hajar area, northern Al-Dhalea Governorate.

A Heartbreaking Human Tragedy

In a statement, Al-Eryani described this heartbreaking incident as a stark reminder of the ongoing threat posed by landmines and unexploded munitions. These deadly remnants, left by Houthi militias across various provinces, show a blatant disregard for the lives of civilians, particularly children and women. Such actions represent a gross violation of international humanitarian laws and norms.

Fields of Deferred Death

Al-Eryani pointed out that Houthi militias have transformed vast areas of land, villages, and roads into fields of deferred death. These mines continue to claim the lives of Yemenis, even in regions far from active conflict zones. Tragically, children remain the most affected group, suffering the consequences of these ongoing atrocities.

Call to the International Community

Al-Eryani emphasized that this crime highlights the magnitude of the humanitarian disaster caused by the landmines and explosive devices planted by Houthi militias. He underscored the critical importance of humanitarian efforts led by the “Masam” project, which focuses on demining in Yemen. Over the past few years, this initiative has saved thousands of lives by clearing extensive areas of land, thereby protecting civilians and enabling local communities to regain their normal lives.

He renewed his call for the international community, the United Nations, and human rights organizations to take responsibility for these recurring crimes. Al-Eryani urged them to exert more pressure on Houthi militias to halt these violations and hold those responsible accountable. Additionally, he called for support for national efforts aimed at clearing Yemen of landmines and remnants of war that continue to threaten civilian lives daily.
