This operation, which took place at the Al-Wadiah border crossing in Hadhramaut, uncovered the shipment cleverly concealed within innocent-looking cargo.
Details of the Seized Shipment
According to the Customs Authority, the confiscated items included:
- 470 kilograms of Sodium Cyanide: This highly toxic substance is classified as a dual-use material under strict international control and was hidden within 47 bags of rice.
- 1100 kilograms of Activated Carbon: Concealed in 169 bags of rice, this material was part of a sophisticated effort to evade inspection.
- 105 liters of Nitric Acid: This highly concentrated chemical poses significant risks and was included in the shipment.
- 54,680 tablets of Solpadeine: These were discovered hidden inside washing machines, cleaning product containers, and a travel bag.
- 238 tubes of medical ointments and a medical device for fluid suction: These items were also part of the smuggled goods.
Statements from Customs Officials
Abdul Haq Lahsan, the Director General of Al-Wadiah Customs, stated that the seizure is in line with the government’s commitments to international agreements and compliance with customs laws. He reassured the public that customs personnel will remain vigilant against any goods that may threaten national, regional, or international security, as well as public health and the environment.
