In a ceremonial event held in Aden, Yemen’s temporary capital, the World Health Organization’s Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office recognized the Ministry of Public Health and Population’s National Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) for its outstanding achievements over the past fifty years.
Dr. Qasim Bahibh, the Minister of Public Health and Population, lauded the tireless efforts of healthcare workers in the field who have achieved significant successes despite the nation’s exceptional circumstances. He highlighted the immunization program as a fundamental cornerstone of primary healthcare services, noting its tangible successes over the past five decades. Dr. Bahibh expressed the ministry’s aspirations to expand the program further, introduce new vaccines, and increase coverage to reach all children.
Dr. Ali Al-Walidi, the Deputy Minister for Primary Healthcare, reviewed the successes of the EPI over fifty years, including the Ministry of Health’s achievements in reducing child mortality and controlling the spread of measles and polio.
Dr. Touro Biscigan, the World Health Organization’s representative in Yemen, congratulated the Ministry of Health, the primary healthcare sector, and the immunization program on their recognition. He reaffirmed the organization’s support for the EPI’s efforts to reach all targeted children.
This acknowledgment by the World Health Organization marks a significant milestone for Yemen’s EPI, celebrating five decades of continuous performance and dedication to public health. The recognition not only highlights the program’s past achievements but also underscores the ongoing commitment of both national and international bodies to improve health outcomes for Yemen’s children.
The collaboration between the Yemeni Ministry of Public Health and Population and the World Health Organization continues to be a beacon of hope, aiming to ensure that every child in Yemen receives the necessary immunizations for a healthy start in life.
