The Justice and Development Bridges Organization has reported the displacement of approximately 260 families from Ibb Governorate last year. This exodus stems from extensive campaigns of abduction and persecution carried out by the Houthi militia. The situation underscores the urgent need for international intervention.
In a report released on Wednesday, the organization highlighted that Ibb experienced one of the most extensive Houthi repression campaigns in 2025. The militia specifically targeted academic, educational, medical, and engineering professionals. The report noted that the number of individuals abducted during this campaign exceeded 115, with only a limited number released later, while many remain in custody.
The report detailed the severe consequences of displacement for hundreds of families who received direct threats or found their names on targeted lists. Many families fled to Marib, Aden, Taiz, Hadramout, and other areas under the control of the legitimate government. These displaced families have suffered significant losses, including job loss, property damage, and interruptions in their children’s education.
The organization emphasized that displaced families face high living costs, compounded by health and psychological struggles due to forced displacement and ongoing fears for relatives still in Ibb. They warned that the situation could evolve into a long-term crisis without effective support programs for those affected.
In conclusion, the organization urged the Houthi militia to immediately and unconditionally release all abducted individuals and cease their pursuit campaigns. They also called for the establishment of an independent national mechanism to assess the conditions of displaced families and provide urgent support programs. The organization urged the United Nations and international organizations to pay special attention to this humanitarian issue.
