Tragedy strikes as 19 people die and several others are injured in drowning, lightning, and suffocation incidents across four provinces.

Tragic Incidents in Yemen’s Provinces

Over the past two days, the provinces of Ibb, Dhamar, Al-Dhale, and Taiz have witnessed a series of tragic incidents. These events resulted in the deaths of 13 individuals and injuries to 6 others, coinciding with heavy rainfall affecting various regions in Yemen.

Ibb: Four Fatal Incidents

In Ibb, four tragic accidents occurred:

  • Three citizens drowned in water barriers in the districts of Baidan and Al-Sabrah.
  • A young man from the Basha family died after being struck by lightning in the Al-Maliki area of Al-Adain district.

Taiz: Drowning of Two Boys

In Taiz, two boys lost their lives:

  • Ibrahim Ahmed Murshid (17 years old) and Amjad Fawaz Salem (15 years old) drowned while swimming in a dam located in the Damdum area of Khadir district.

Al-Dhale: Three Deaths from Drowning and Lightning

Al-Dhale reported three fatalities:

  • Mohannad Abdul-Ilah (17 years old) drowned in the Al-Lamiha dam, although rescuers saved another young man.
  • A 20-year-old man drowned in a water pool in the Al-Wih area.
  • A 12-year-old girl died after a lightning strike hit the village of Al-Suwaida in Al-Husha district.

Dhamar: Deaths from Lightning and Suffocation

In Dhamar, several incidents resulted in fatalities:

  • A girl died, and two others sustained injuries from a lightning strike in Wassab Al-Safil.
  • A woman died from a lightning strike in Atmah, while three children survived.
  • A man named Abduljalil Al-Haidama and his son Qanif suffocated inside a well due to generator fumes in Anas district.

Ongoing Flooding Crisis

An earlier international report indicated that the flooding wave that struck Yemen since March has led to the deaths and injuries of 187 people and affected over 132,000 individuals.

The situation remains critical as heavy rains continue to pose risks across the country. Authorities urge residents to exercise caution and stay informed about weather conditions.
