The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior discusses strengthening cooperation with the UN High Commissioner.

Strengthening Cooperation Between Yemen's Interior Ministry and UNHCR

On Monday, Major General Abdul Majid Al-Amiri, the Assistant Minister of Interior for Civil Services, met with a delegation from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to discuss enhancing collaboration and partnership with the organization.

Key Participants in the Meeting

The meeting included several notable figures, such as Marat Atameradov, the Deputy Representative of UNHCR in Yemen; Mohammed Rafiq Nasri, the Director of the UNHCR office in Aden; Lizzie Faris, the organization’s Protection Officer; and Faiz Baqtiyan, the Registration Officer. Additionally, the meeting featured Colonel Nasr Al-Shawash, the Director of the Immigration and Passports Department in Aden, and Colonel Aref Areeb, the Director General of Human Rights at the Ministry of Interior. Various department heads from the Immigration and Passports Department and refugee affairs specialists also participated.

Discussion on ProGres v4 Implementation

During the discussions, the participants focused on implementing the updated ProGres v4 system in the registration centers affiliated with the Immigration and Passports Department. This system aims to streamline the registration process for refugees and migrants, ensuring better service delivery.

Future Collaboration and Knowledge Exchange

Both parties explored avenues for future collaboration, emphasizing initiatives for knowledge exchange and the development of joint projects. These efforts aim to enhance services and address several issues of mutual interest.

Commitment to Supporting Refugees

The UNHCR delegation reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening cooperation with the Ministry of Interior’s Civil Services Sector, particularly the Immigration and Passports Department. They pledged to provide necessary support to shelters and refugee centers, which will improve services for migrants. Furthermore, they emphasized the importance of coordinating with relevant stakeholders regarding refugee matters in Yemen.

This meeting marks a significant step toward improving the support and services available to refugees and migrants in Yemen, highlighting the ongoing commitment of both the Yemeni government and UNHCR to address these critical issues.
