The Supreme Judicial Council convened today in the temporary capital of Aden, led by its President, Judge Mohsen Yahya Taleb. This extraordinary meeting aimed to address pressing issues within the judicial system.
Addressing Court Closures in Aden
During the meeting, the council discussed the recent suspension of operations in several courts across Aden. The council acknowledged the judges’ concerns and expressed its commitment to addressing these issues since its establishment. However, it emphasized that demands for improved conditions for judicial staff should not justify halting court operations or delaying citizens’ cases.
Accountability Measures for Judicial Violations
The council decided to refer judges who violate regulations to the Judicial Inspection Authority. A report will be submitted to the council regarding these cases. For administrative staff, the council will send violators to the Ministry of Justice for further investigation.
Ongoing Monitoring of Closed Courts
Additionally, the council tasked the Judicial Inspection Authority with the continuous monitoring of closed courts. This proactive approach aims to ensure that judicial services resume promptly and effectively.
Budget Allocation for the Judicial Authority
Regarding the budget for the judicial authority, the council revealed that salaries and wages consume 86% of the total budget, leaving only 14% for operational expenses. This allocation highlights the financial constraints faced by the judicial system.
