The Shura Council’s presidency held a consultative meeting with several council members.

Council Leadership Discusses Strategic Developments

The leadership of the Shura Council, headed by Dr. Ahmed Obaid bin Daghr, convened a meeting with his two deputies, Dr. Abdullah Abu Al-Ghaith and Engineer Wahi Aman. The meeting focused on the directives from the Presidential Leadership Council regarding the revitalization of the Shura Council and other state institutions. Additionally, the attendees reviewed the latest local, regional, and international developments.

Political Developments and Threats to Navigation

During the meeting, Dr. bin Daghr provided members with a comprehensive overview of the political landscape. He highlighted the significant threats posed by the Houthi group to international navigation in the Red Sea, the Arabian Sea, and the Gulf of Aden. Furthermore, he addressed the severe damage inflicted on Yemen’s infrastructure, which has adversely affected the nation’s strategic resources.

Support for Peace Initiatives

Dr. bin Daghr acknowledged the efforts of Saudi Arabia and Oman in promoting peace, despite the Houthi militia’s persistent intransigence and ongoing violations across various fronts. This recognition underscores the importance of regional cooperation in achieving stability in Yemen.

Emphasizing the Role of the Shura Council

The Council’s leadership and members emphasized the need for the Shura Council to actively engage in upcoming phases. They committed to aligning with the directives of the Presidential Leadership Council, led by Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi. This alignment aims to restore state institutions and enhance their performance across various sectors, particularly in revitalizing regulatory bodies.

Focus on Institutional Reform

The consultative meeting highlighted the necessity for reform that aligns with the current needs of the nation. Members discussed improving the performance of key institutions, specifically the National Anti-Corruption Commission and the Supreme Committee for Monitoring Tenders and Auctions. These reforms are crucial for fostering accountability and transparency within the government.

Improving Conditions in Liberated Provinces

The meeting stressed the importance of improving conditions in liberated provinces, especially in the temporary capital, Aden. The unique circumstances of Aden require special attention to public services, including electricity, security, stability, and the timely payment of salaries.

Inclusion of National Groups

The consultative meeting also underscored the importance of integrating diverse national groups into state institutions. This inclusion aims to enhance genuine national partnership among all citizens of Yemen, regardless of their geographical backgrounds.

Upcoming Initiatives

The Council’s leadership and the General Secretariat held a closed meeting to discuss necessary steps for opening nominations for membership in the National Anti-Corruption Commission in the coming days. Additionally, they will review annual work reports and outline the work plan for the next phase.

This proactive approach demonstrates the Shura Council’s commitment to enhancing governance and addressing the pressing issues facing Yemen today.
