On Thursday, Prime Minister Dr. Sha’if Mohsen Al-Zandani conducted an inspection visit to the Customs Authority headquarters in Aden. This visit forms part of his ongoing efforts to assess government institutions, enhance revenue collection efficiency, and support the national economy.
Upon arrival, Dr. Al-Zandani received a warm welcome from Customs Authority President Abdul Hakim Al-Qabati and other officials. The Prime Minister toured various departments within the authority, engaging with specialists who provided insights into operational workflows, customs transaction processes, and ongoing performance improvement initiatives.
During his visit, Dr. Al-Zandani also stopped by the Customs Training Center. There, he met participants in training courses aimed at combating smuggling, conducted in collaboration with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime. This initiative highlights the government’s commitment to enhancing skills and knowledge in customs operations.
The Prime Minister held a meeting with the Customs Authority leadership to discuss performance levels, existing challenges, and development plans. He emphasized the importance of adapting to current demands to improve customs collection efficiency and combat smuggling. Additionally, he addressed the ongoing work on the new Customs Authority building, expected to be completed soon.
Dr. Al-Zandani underscored that the Customs Authority serves as the first line of defense for the national economy. He noted its critical role in safeguarding the local market and enhancing state revenue, which in turn supports the government’s ability to fulfill its obligations and improve services for citizens. He expressed the government’s desire for the Customs Authority to become a model of institutional discipline, efficiency, and revenue maximization.
The Prime Minister reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to combating corruption. He highlighted that addressing smuggling in all its forms is a shared national responsibility, requiring cooperation among relevant agencies. He pointed out that smuggling poses significant risks to the national economy, depriving the state of vital resources and facilitating illegal activities.
In response, the Customs Authority leadership presented key achievements from recent months, ongoing development plans, and measures taken to enhance operational efficiency and customs oversight. They reaffirmed their commitment to implementing the Prime Minister’s directives, aiming to elevate the authority’s performance and bolster its role in supporting the national economy.
This visit reflects the government’s recognition of the positive strides made by the Customs Authority and its personnel, showcasing their commitment to improving performance and management.
