Prime Minister Receives Al-Hudaydah Governor Amid Escalating Conflict

On Monday, Prime Minister Dr. Sha’if Mohsen Al-Zandani welcomed Al-Hudaydah Governor Al-Hassan Taher in the temporary capital of Aden. The meeting focused on the latest developments in the governorate following the significant military escalation by the Iran-backed Houthi militia. This escalation has led to serious field developments and widespread humanitarian consequences for civilians.

Humanitarian Situation and Displacement

During the meeting, Prime Minister Al-Zandani listened to a briefing on the humanitarian and field conditions in Al-Hudaydah. The governor reported an increasing displacement of residents from areas overtaken by the Houthi militia. He highlighted the militia’s violations, including the killing and abduction of civilians, as well as the dire situation of families forced to abandon their homes and possessions due to bombardments and assaults. The governor also discussed the urgent needs of the displaced and the efforts made by local authorities in coordination with government entities and regional and international partners.

Commitment to Restoring State Authority

Dr. Al-Zandani emphasized that the battle to restore full state authority does not end with changes in front lines. He noted that Yemenis standing against the Iranian-backed Houthi project are fighting to defend the republic, sovereignty, and the future of the country. The state and government will continue their efforts to rebuild strength and regain the initiative, aiming to end the coup and restore state authority and its institutions in Al-Hudaydah and across the nation.

Accountability for Violations

The Prime Minister pointed out that the situation in the western coast reflects the Houthi militia’s pattern of subjugating local communities through murder, repression, displacement, and property confiscation. He asserted that these crimes will not be forgotten over time, and the government will document all violations in preparation for holding the perpetrators accountable.

Urgent Response to Displacement

Dr. Al-Zandani directed an increase in efforts to accommodate the displaced and secure their basic needs. He praised the efforts of local authorities in the provinces and areas receiving the displaced. He stressed the importance of treating the waves of displacement as a national duty that requires a broad governmental and humanitarian response, along with urgent international support. He called for not leaving host communities and the displaced to face the consequences of the escalation alone.
