Health Minister Dr. Qassem Baheeb held a comprehensive meeting today in the temporary capital of Aden with health sector partners (the cluster). The meeting aimed to discuss the current health and humanitarian situation in the country, particularly in light of the Houthi escalation and its impact on the population, health facilities, and services. The escalation has resulted in increased casualties, displacement, and damage to several health facilities and assets.
During the meeting, which included ministry officials, Dr. Syed Jafar, the World Health Organization (WHO) representative in Yemen, and representatives from international and local organizations, participants reviewed the current health indicators. They also discussed additional needs to enhance the readiness of health facilities, especially in emergency departments, intensive care units, and ambulance services. Ensuring the continuous supply of medicines and medical supplies in affected areas was also a key focus.
Minister Baheeb emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts between the ministry and its partners. He urged everyone to work as a unified team to address the health and humanitarian repercussions of the Houthi escalation. Strengthening emergency response capabilities remains a priority at this stage.
The minister stressed the necessity of unifying efforts and directing resources according to actual needs on the ground. He highlighted the importance of enhancing coordination between health and humanitarian entities to ensure rapid response, protect lives, and maintain the provision of essential services, particularly for the most vulnerable groups affected by displacement.
Representatives from the WHO and participating organizations affirmed the importance of continued coordination and partnership with the Ministry of Health. They committed to unifying efforts to support the health sector and enhance its capacity to respond to emergency needs.
The meeting concluded with a series of proposals and directions aimed at improving coordination among health sector partners. These initiatives seek to bolster the readiness of health facilities and emergency response capabilities, ensuring that new developments are addressed according to health and humanitarian priorities.
