Prime Minister Discusses Health Sector Support with WHO Representative

In a significant meeting today in the temporary capital of Aden, Dr. Shai Mohsen Al-Zandani, the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, welcomed Mr. Jaafar Hussein, the WHO representative and head of the organization’s mission in Yemen. The two leaders focused on enhancing collaboration to support Yemen’s health sector.

Aiming for Strategic Partnership

Prime Minister Al-Zandani expressed Yemen’s desire for a strategic partnership with the World Health Organization. He emphasized the need to shift from emergency responses to proactive measures, aiming for prevention, preparedness, and the establishment of sustainable health systems.

Intensifying Epidemic Response

The discussion highlighted the urgency of intensifying efforts to combat epidemics, particularly cholera, malaria, and dengue fever, as summer approaches. The leaders acknowledged the importance of addressing pathogens linked to food safety and drinking water. They also stressed the need for enhanced preventive measures to curb the spread of these diseases.

Supporting Vulnerable Populations

The meeting underscored the necessity of supporting children and women while promoting integration between the health sector and government initiatives. This approach aims to improve the quality of health services across the nation.

Strengthening the Health System

Both leaders agreed on the importance of strengthening the health system through the training of healthcare personnel. They discussed enhancing vaccination programs and health security, as well as localizing treatment services. Furthermore, they recognized the need for sustainable funding and improved institutional coordination in collaboration with relevant national authorities.

This meeting marks a crucial step towards bolstering Yemen’s health infrastructure and ensuring better health outcomes for its citizens.
