On Sunday evening, the Presidential Leadership Council convened under the leadership of President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi. The meeting included members Sultan Al-Aradah, Abdulrahman Al-Mahrimi, Dr. Abdullah Al-Alimi, and Salem Al-Khanbashi. Members Tareq Saleh and Mahmoud Al-Sabihi participated via video conference, while member Othman Majali was absent with an excuse.
At the start of the meeting, which also included Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Sha’if Al-Zindani via video link, the council extended heartfelt congratulations to the Yemeni people both domestically and abroad, as well as to the Arab and Islamic nations, on the occasion of Ramadan. The council expressed hopes that this holy month would bring fulfillment of the Yemeni people’s aspirations for restoring state institutions and ending the Iranian-backed coup.
President Al-Alimi provided a brief overview of his participation in the Munich Security Conference. He highlighted his bilateral meetings with leaders and decision-makers from friendly nations, showcasing Yemen’s growing role as an active partner in regional and international security issues.
The council reviewed the recent developments in the temporary capital of Aden, focusing on attempts to undermine state institutions and disrupt their operations. The council reaffirmed its commitment to respond decisively to any efforts aimed at destabilizing national institutions. It called for a comprehensive investigation into these incidents and pledged to hold accountable those involved in inciting or financing such actions. The council commended the vigilance of the armed forces and security personnel in protecting civilians and public and private property.
The council expressed its deep appreciation for Saudi Arabia’s agreement to host the Southern Dialogue Conference. This initiative represents a significant step in addressing the Southern issue, which has historical and social dimensions that require fair treatment within the framework of the state and its guaranteed references.
The council warned against squandering this historic opportunity under pressure from slogans or narrow calculations. It urged the protection of security, service, and economic gains while learning from the reckless adventures of Houthi militias, which have left over 20 million Yemenis without salaries or opportunities for a dignified life.
The council reiterated its gratitude for Saudi Arabia’s generous support in improving conditions in liberated provinces. It emphasized the strategic partnership with Saudi Arabia, rooted in shared borders, common destiny, and mutual security. The council congratulated Saudi leadership on the occasion of Founding Day and acknowledged the comprehensive development and significant transformations achieved across various sectors.
The council listened to a report from the Prime Minister regarding the overall situation in the country and the support needed to fulfill government obligations to citizens. The report included preliminary indicators about the government’s work program for the current year, focusing on service sectors and security while alleviating the humanitarian suffering caused by Houthi militias.
The council affirmed its full support for the government, enabling it to exercise its constitutional powers and advance the recovery plan and comprehensive reform program. This includes expediting the preparation of the general budget, improving revenue, combating corruption, enhancing transparency, and implementing service projects that directly impact citizens’ lives.
The meeting also addressed regional developments amid the ongoing obstinacy of the Iranian regime and its rogue militias in Yemen and the region. The council confirmed the state’s readiness to deter any potential threats in close coordination with the legitimacy support coalition and the international community.
The council discussed several agenda items and reviewed the implementation of previous decisions and directives, making necessary recommendations and decisions. Dr. Yahya Al-Shaibi, Director of the Presidential Office, attended the meeting.
