In a significant gathering held today in the temporary capital of Aden, Minister of Legal Affairs Judge Ishraq Al-Maqtari convened a comprehensive meeting. The focus was on discussing strategies to enhance the management of state cases and strengthen legal protections for public funds.
During the meeting, which included 32 representatives from various legal departments and state case offices across multiple institutions, the minister emphasized the ministry’s commitment to improving the performance of legal departments. She highlighted the importance of regular meetings and consistent reporting to activate monitoring mechanisms. Furthermore, she stressed the need for enhanced coordination with relevant entities to overcome challenges faced by legal departments and lawyers handling cases in court.
Al-Maqtari praised the efforts of legal representatives and lawyers involved in state cases, acknowledging the difficulties they encountered in recent times. Her remarks came in the presence of the ministry’s deputies overseeing various sectors, including Fatwa and Legislation, the Official Gazette, Oversight and Awareness, and State Cases.
Participants shared insights into their operational realities, discussing the procedural and field challenges they face. They also addressed issues related to legal affairs directors, overlapping responsibilities, licensing matters, case fees, and difficulties in executing judicial rulings in state cases.
The meeting concluded with several proposals and directives aimed at inclusion in the annual action plan. Key recommendations included cataloging state cases monitored by legal professionals, enhancing training and capacity-building for specialized cases, activating monitoring and oversight mechanisms for legal department performance, and addressing existing issues in coordination with relevant authorities. Additionally, the establishment of legal units in non-compliant entities and the development of a legislative environment to ensure the protection of public funds and combat corruption were highlighted as priorities.
This meeting marks a crucial step towards improving legal frameworks and ensuring accountability in the management of state cases, ultimately safeguarding public assets.
