On Monday, the National Commission for Investigating Allegations of Human Rights Violations held a workshop in Shabwa titled "Justice for Victims of Violations in the Path of Transitional Justice." This event aimed to address the pressing issues surrounding human rights violations and the mechanisms for providing justice to victims.
The workshop attracted 34 participants, including representatives from civil society organizations, human rights institutions, media outlets, and activists focused on monitoring and documenting human rights violations in the region. Participants engaged in discussions about various papers that outlined the mechanisms for ensuring justice for victims of human rights abuses. They also examined the challenges of integrating accountability within the framework of transitional justice and explored available opportunities for compensating victims and addressing their grievances.
Dr. Diaa Mohairz, a member of the National Commission, emphasized the commission’s ongoing commitment to monitoring, documenting, and investigating human rights violations. She highlighted the importance of referring cases to judicial authorities to hold perpetrators accountable. Furthermore, Dr. Mohairz acknowledged the crucial role that civil society organizations, human rights activists, and journalists play in documenting these violations.
The workshop in Shabwa represents a significant step toward enhancing awareness and understanding of transitional justice. By fostering collaboration among various stakeholders, the National Commission aims to create a more just environment for victims of human rights violations. The commitment to accountability and support for victims remains a priority as the commission continues its vital work.
