The Minister of Awqaf and Guidance, Sheikh Turki Al-Wadaei, emphasized that lifting the siege imposed by the Iranian-backed Houthi militias on the city of Taiz and alleviating the suffering of its residents represent a religious, national, and humanitarian duty. He called for urgent action from the international community and humanitarian and human rights organizations.
Minister Al-Wadaei stated, “The continued siege by the Houthi militias on cities and the deprivation of residents’ freedom of movement and access to basic needs contradict the objectives of Islamic law, which aims to preserve life, protect humanity, and alleviate harm.” He affirmed that assisting the oppressed and providing relief to those affected is a religious and humanitarian responsibility that requires a serious stance to end their suffering.
He pointed out the similarities between the humanitarian suffering experienced by the people of Taiz due to the siege and the plight of civilians in the Gaza Strip, who face the repercussions of the Israeli blockade and assaults. The restrictions on their daily lives cause severe hardships. Al-Wadaei urged the international community and relevant organizations to intensify their efforts to pressure for an end to the siege, open roads, and ensure the delivery of humanitarian and medical aid to those in need.
The minister stressed the necessity of ending the suffering in Taiz, highlighting its national and humanitarian significance. He noted that the continued closure of roads and restrictions on residents’ movement exacerbate living and health conditions, increasing the burdens on affected families. This situation necessitates practical steps to facilitate movement and secure the delivery of essential supplies and services.
Minister Al-Wadaei urged scholars, preachers, and advocates to fulfill their religious and awareness responsibilities by clarifying the actions of the Iranian-backed Houthi militias and the prohibition of oppression and violations of civilian rights. He called for raising awareness about the suffering of the people of Taiz and encouraging the community to promote values of solidarity and compassion, based on Islamic teachings that advocate for aiding the distressed, supporting the oppressed, and assisting those in need.
He warned that the continued international silence regarding the suffering of civilians threatens to normalize the tragedy and prolong its consequences. Al-Wadaei emphasized that upholding the rights of the oppressed and alleviating the suffering of those affected is a duty mandated by Islamic values and reinforced by humanitarian charters.
