Today, in The Hague, the President and members of Yemen’s National Committee for Investigating Allegations of Human Rights Violations convened with Dutch human rights ambassador Wim Geurts and Deputy Director for the Middle East and North Africa, Michael Bestke. This meeting aimed to address the critical human rights situation in Yemen and the ongoing investigations by the committee.

Overview of Human Rights Violations in Yemen

During the meeting, Judge Ahmed Saeed Al-Maflahi, President of the National Committee, presented the recent human rights conditions in Yemen. He highlighted the findings from the committee’s twelfth periodic report, which spans from August 1, 2023, to July 31, 2024. This comprehensive report documented a staggering 3,055 allegations of human rights violations across the country.

Committee’s Approach and Methodology

Committee members elaborated on the strategies employed to reach various regions throughout Yemen. They emphasized their commitment to connecting with all victims of violations perpetrated by different parties. The committee adhered to international standards to fulfill its mandate during this period, ensuring a thorough and unbiased investigation process.

Dutch Commitment to Human Rights in Yemen

In response, Dutch foreign ministry officials expressed their concern for the human rights situation in Yemen. They reaffirmed the Netherlands’ dedication to promoting stability in Yemen and protecting human rights. Furthermore, they emphasized their support for the continued operations of the National Committee investigating these violations.
