Minister of Water and Environment Inspects Fawri Water Field in Al-Mahra

Al-Mahra, Yemen – Today, Minister of Water and Environment, Engineer Tawfiq Al-Sharjabi, visited the Fawri Water Field located west of Al-Ghaydah city. During the visit, he assessed the operational status of the field and its technical components. He listened to specialists who explained the field’s operational mechanisms, production capacity, and its crucial role in providing drinking water to residents. Additionally, he discussed the essential technical needs to enhance operational efficiency and ensure service sustainability.

Solar Power Station Plans

The minister also toured the site designated for a solar power station intended to operate wells in Wadi Fawri. This project will receive funding from the World Bank, highlighting the government’s commitment to improving water services in the region.

Damage Assessment from Recent Weather Events

During his visit, Al-Sharjabi examined the damage inflicted on several water wells due to recent hurricanes and weather disturbances in the province. He acknowledged the adverse effects these events had on water sources. He praised the efforts made to rehabilitate the field through projects funded by the Saudi Program for Development and Reconstruction of Yemen.

Commitment to Sustainable Water Services

Al-Sharjabi emphasized the importance of maintaining the operational efficiency of the Fawri Water Field. He stressed the need to continue developing the water sector’s infrastructure to meet citizens’ needs and enhance service quality in the province. He noted that the government has allocated funding to improve water services in Al-Mahra as part of integrated urban projects and human capital initiatives in collaboration with the World Bank.

Local Authority’s Support for Water Projects

Engineer Awad Qwaizan, the Technical Affairs Deputy of the province, reaffirmed the local authority’s commitment to the water sector. He expressed the administration’s dedication to monitoring projects and providing necessary support to enhance their efficiency and service quality.

Matar Kada, the Director General of the General Water and Sanitation Corporation in Al-Mahra, stated that the Fawri Water Field is a vital source that significantly contributes to water services in Al-Ghaydah and surrounding areas. He assured that the corporation is focused on ensuring the field’s operational sustainability and improving performance to guarantee continued service for residents.
