Yemen's Minister of Planning Discusses Cooperation with EU Ambassadors

Today, Dr. Waed Badhieb, Yemen’s Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, who also serves as the Acting Minister of Communications and Information Technology, engaged in a virtual meeting with ambassadors from European Union (EU) member states. The discussion focused on enhancing collaboration in the fields of development and communication.

Addressing Humanitarian Challenges

During the meeting, participants examined the significant challenges affecting humanitarian and developmental efforts in areas controlled by the Houthi militia. They emphasized the critical need to ensure the safety and security of personnel working for international organizations.

Promoting Sustainable Development

Minister Badhieb presented the government’s developmental approach, which aims to transition from reliance on foreign aid to achieving self-sufficiency. He highlighted ongoing efforts to combat corruption, implement financial and administrative reforms, and develop economic resources.

Despite the challenging circumstances Yemen faces, Dr. Badhieb reaffirmed the country’s commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He noted that the government has maintained a national team responsible for preparing the voluntary national review, which serves as a sustainable institutional mechanism to monitor progress and recommend necessary reforms.

Improving Communication Infrastructure

The minister also addressed plans to enhance the telecommunications infrastructure, discussing the challenges involved in modernizing networks and expanding digital services. He underscored the importance of international cooperation in cybersecurity and highlighted the need for continued support in community engagement, participatory planning, and ongoing collaboration between Yemen and the EU. This partnership aims to achieve sustainable and effective developmental outcomes across various sectors, including communications and information technology.

European Ambassadors Commend Yemen’s Efforts

In response, the European ambassadors in Yemen praised the efforts made by the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation. They expressed their appreciation for the open dialogue with all government entities, acknowledging the importance of collaborative discussions in fostering development.
