ADEN, Yemen – Today, Minister of Legal Affairs Judge Ishraq Al-Maqtari met with Aster Bakar, the Regional Director of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, in the temporary capital of Aden. The two leaders explored ways to enhance mutual cooperation and implement programs aligned with the ministry’s upcoming plans.
During the meeting, Al-Maqtari presented the ministry’s strategy focusing on institutional and technical improvements. A key initiative involves automating institutional work and connecting the ministry’s office with legal affairs offices across various ministries, agencies, and provinces through a unified electronic system. This approach aims to improve oversight, monitoring, and institutional coordination.
Al-Maqtari also highlighted the ministry’s efforts to reprint legal books after thorough review and revision. This initiative responds to the proliferation of unofficial copies altered by Houthi militias, which contain unlawful modifications. The minister emphasized the importance of providing reliable legal references for government entities and researchers.
The minister reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to enhancing the capabilities of legal professionals in legislative drafting, advocacy, and legal oversight. Additionally, the ministry plans to reactivate awareness campaigns through the legal monitoring and awareness sector.
In response, Aster Bakar praised the government’s reform and governance initiatives. She expressed her support for the ministry’s clear priorities and confirmed the foundation’s readiness to strengthen collaboration in the coming period.
This meeting marks a significant step towards fostering a robust legal framework in Yemen, ensuring that legal professionals have the resources and support they need to uphold the rule of law.
