The Minister of Information stated that the ceasefire has allowed Iran and the Houthis to rearm and strengthen threats.

International Community Urged to Recognize Iranian Threats

Minister of Information Highlights Iranian Influence

Minister of Information Muammar Al-Eryani has called on the international community to remain vigilant and not be deceived by the current temporary calm. He emphasized that recent events clearly demonstrate Iran’s use of its regional proxies as tools for pressure and extortion. Al-Eryani warned that Iran, through the Houthi militia, aims to replicate the strategic threats seen in the Strait of Hormuz within the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab. This strategy could jeopardize international shipping and trade, making them subject to Tehran’s political and military calculations.

Houthi Militia’s Organized Threats

In a recent press statement, Al-Eryani provided detailed information regarding the Houthi militia’s activities, which operate under direct Iranian guidance. He revealed that the militia is establishing a systematic mechanism to impose tolls on commercial vessels. This development signifies that the threat is not merely temporary; rather, it represents a comprehensive project aimed at transforming the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab into a consistent source of funding for the militia’s war efforts and terrorist activities. Furthermore, it serves as a tool for extorting the international community and threatening global interests.

Need for Comprehensive Security Measures

Al-Eryani stressed that securing Bab al-Mandab requires more than just naval patrols or reactive measures. He argued that addressing the root causes of the threat is essential. This involves supporting the Yemeni government in asserting its sovereignty over its territory, coastlines, and ports. Such measures are crucial for ensuring the safety of international maritime routes.

Ongoing Houthi Threats

The Minister reiterated that the security of the Red Sea remains at risk as long as the Houthi militia retains control over parts of Yemen’s coastline. The militia continues to stockpile missiles and drones, using Yemeni territory as a platform to threaten neighboring countries and international interests. Meanwhile, Iranian Revolutionary Guard officers and experts work alongside the militia to enhance its capabilities and strengthen its position.

Consequences of Inaction

Al-Eryani cautioned that any delay in taking decisive action against this threat will increase future confrontation costs. It will also provide the Houthis and the Iranian Revolutionary Guard with more time to reorganize, reposition, and acquire advanced weaponry and technology. This could expand the scope of threats targeting international shipping and regional security.

Iran’s Military Preparations

He pointed out that recent Iranian military statements have confirmed that Tehran has exploited the ceasefire period to import new equipment and rebuild its combat capabilities. This acknowledgment indicates that Iran views periods of calm as opportunities for rearmament rather than genuine chances for peace.

Call for International Support

Al-Eryani reiterated that restoring Yemen’s sovereignty over its territory is no longer just a national demand; it has become a strategic necessity for regional security. He urged the international community to adopt a firmer approach to address the root threats and support Yemen in reclaiming its institutions and full sovereignty. This action is vital to prevent Iran from using the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab as tools for political extortion and a continuous source of funding for its terrorist proxies.
