Minister Condemns Houthi Killing of Citizen in Al-Hudaydah

Al-Hudaydah Incident Sparks Outrage

The Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism, Muammar Al-Eryani, has strongly condemned the brutal killing of Khaled Issa Hamidi, a citizen with mental health issues, by a Houthi militia leader in the Al-Mahawrah district of Al-Hudaydah. This incident highlights the true nature of the Iranian-backed militia.

Details of the Incident

In a press statement, Al-Eryani explained that Hamidi had been peacefully protesting daily outside the homes of militia leaders. He voiced his concerns over deteriorating living conditions and the loss of his livelihood. Tragically, the cultural supervisor of the militia, identified as Mohammed Mahim Haisha, shot Hamidi directly, killing him instantly.

Wider Implications of the Crime

The minister noted that this shocking crime has stirred public opinion in Al-Hudaydah and across Yemen. It underscores the militia’s ongoing policy of repression, violence, and intimidation against anyone who dares to speak out against their actions. Al-Eryani pointed out the hypocrisy of the Houthis, who feign concern for humanitarian issues in Gaza while committing heinous acts of violence and starvation against Yemenis, disregarding both religious and humanitarian values.

Arrests and Intimidation Tactics

In the aftermath of the murder, Al-Eryani revealed that the Houthi militia has kidnapped over 60 citizens from Al-Mahawrah who participated in protests demanding justice for Hamidi. Additionally, several activists who condemned the crime on social media have also faced intimidation. This strategy aims to silence dissent and instill fear within the local community.

A Pattern of Violations

The minister emphasized that this horrific crime, along with subsequent acts of repression and abduction, represents a continuation of the long history of violations and brutal acts committed by the Houthi militia against the people of Tihama since their infamous coup. These acts include murder, kidnapping, enforced disappearances, starvation, and the looting of resources to fund their terrorist activities.

Call for International Action

In closing, Al-Eryani urged the international community, the United Nations, and all human rights organizations—both local and international—to break their silence. He called for condemnation of this heinous crime and for pressure to be applied on the militia to release all detainees. He also emphasized the need to support the legitimate government in restoring the state, protecting citizens’ rights and freedoms, and ensuring a dignified life for all Yemenis.
