The Minister of Information and the Governor of Socotra visit projects implemented by the Saudi program in Qalansiyah district.

Saudi Development Projects in Socotra Highlighted by Officials

On Wednesday, Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism Muammar Al-Eryani, alongside Socotra Governor Raef Al-Thaqli and Colonel Rakan Mohammed Al-Subaie, Assistant Commander of the 808 Support and Reinforcement Forces, visited two significant projects implemented by the Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen. These initiatives are part of a broader effort to enhance infrastructure in the archipelago.

School and Power Station Visits

During their visit, Al-Eryani, Al-Thaqli, and Al-Subaie, accompanied by Mohammed Al-Yahya, Director of the Saudi Program Office in Socotra, toured the Abdullah Issa School and the electricity station located in the center of Qalansiyah district. They listened to detailed explanations from the project managers about the vital roles these facilities play in serving the community.

Presidential Greetings and Encouragement for Students

Al-Eryani conveyed greetings from President Dr. Rashad Al-Alimi, members of the Presidential Leadership Council, and the Prime Minister to the management and staff of the projects, expressing appreciation for their dedicated efforts. He encouraged students at the school to strive for academic excellence, emphasizing their role as future leaders responsible for Yemen’s development. Additionally, he urged the teaching staff to enhance their efforts to improve students’ educational outcomes.

Recognition of Saudi Support

The minister praised the Saudi Program for Development and Reconstruction, overseen by Ambassador Muhammad Al-Jaber and his distinguished team. He noted that the program’s impact is evident across all Yemeni governorates and sectors, reflecting the noble support from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia under the leadership of King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Economic Support and Gratitude to the Armed Forces

Al-Eryani highlighted Saudi Arabia’s support for Yemen’s economy, particularly through the recent release of the fourth installment of budgetary support for the Yemeni government and Central Bank. He expressed gratitude for the efforts of the 808 Forces in serving the archipelago and the Yemeni people at large.

Educational Infrastructure Developments

The Socotra Education Office received the Abdullah Issa School in 2021, which currently accommodates 730 students from the seventh grade to the third year of secondary school, distributed across 12 classrooms. The school also includes administrative offices and a computer lab equipped with 15 computers for students and three for teachers and administration.

The Saudi Program for Development and Reconstruction aims to enhance educational infrastructure in Socotra by constructing four schools with a total of 38 classrooms, benefiting over 2,500 students in primary and secondary education. These schools feature libraries, computer and chemistry labs, meeting rooms, sports facilities, and modern furniture, including tables and chairs. Additionally, the program provided eight buses for regular transportation of students.

Resource Distribution to Schools

The program also distributed 2,000 double desks to other schools on the island and supplied 41,000 textbooks to meet the educational needs of students across various subjects.

Electricity Infrastructure Improvements

In the electricity sector, the Saudi Program established the Hadibo station with a capacity of 3,800 kilowatts and three generators, along with the Qalansiyah station, which has a capacity of 1,500 kilowatts and two generators. Other installations include a 60-kilowatt generator at the Nujd center, a 50-kilowatt generator at Al-Hirfa, a 30-kilowatt generator at the maternity hospital, and a 600-kilowatt generator at the airport.

This visit underscores the ongoing commitment of the Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen to enhance the quality of life for the people of Socotra through education and infrastructure development.
