In a significant meeting held today in Aden, Dr. Amin Naaman, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, engaged with Dr. Ahmed Samir, the Regional Coordinator of the UNESCO Center for Quality and Excellence in Education in Yemen. The discussion focused on enhancing collaborative efforts and exploring ways to support and develop higher education and scientific research institutions in the country.
During the meeting, both officials reviewed ongoing projects and programs initiated by the UNESCO center. A primary focus was on procedural steps adopted within the framework of the strategic development plan for Aden University, covering the years 2027 to 2032. Additionally, they explored the possibility of expanding the center’s support to encompass various academic and research fields. They also discussed updating the existing agreement between the ministry and the center to ensure broader benefits for all Yemeni universities.
Minister Naaman emphasized the ministry’s serious commitment to prioritizing quality and academic accreditation in both public and private universities in the upcoming phase. He highlighted the urgent need to strengthen coordination with international expertise to leverage their successful experiences in enhancing higher education systems and ensuring quality standards.
The Minister also pointed out the innovative projects prepared by the Academic Accreditation and Quality Assurance Council. He noted that these initiatives would be presented for in-depth discussion with the UNESCO center in future meetings, paving the way for their implementation. Naaman praised the vital role played by the UNESCO regional center in supporting the education sector and its contributions to promoting quality and institutional excellence.
This collaborative effort marks a crucial step towards improving the educational landscape in Yemen, ensuring that institutions meet international standards and provide quality education to students.
