Health Minister Launches Blood Donation Campaign

Today, the Minister of Public Health and Population, Dr. Qassem Baheeb, launched a blood donation campaign at the National Blood Transfusion and Research Center in the temporary capital, Aden. He began the campaign by donating blood himself, sending a message that emphasizes the importance of humanitarian initiatives and supporting blood reserves to enhance the capacity of health institutions to respond to emergencies.

During the event, Minister Baheeb, accompanied by the Director of the Health Office in Aden, Dr. Tarek Al-Shaabi, and the General Director of Central Health Laboratories, Dr. Waheed Al-Bakhshi, stated that blood donation represents a humanitarian act and a community responsibility. This act directly contributes to saving the lives of patients and the injured, especially given the exceptional circumstances the country faces and the rising need for blood transfusion services.

The minister urged citizens to donate blood regularly and visit the National Center and accredited centers to ensure a safe and sustainable blood supply that meets the needs of hospitals, particularly in emergency, intensive care, surgical, and injury treatment departments.

He also stressed the importance of raising community awareness about the culture of continuous donation, asserting that a safe blood supply should be available year-round, not just during crises.

During his visit to the National Blood Transfusion Center, the minister reviewed the readiness to receive donors and the procedures for blood testing, storage, and component separation. He also assessed the available stock of different blood types and platelets, along with the essential needs to enhance the center’s capabilities.
