Minister of Health Discusses Cooperation with Red Cross

The Minister of Public Health and Population, Dr. Qasem Bahibeh, met today in the temporary capital of Aden with the Head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) mission in Aden, Amira Krier. They discussed ways to enhance joint cooperation and expand health and humanitarian interventions to meet the increasing needs in affected areas.

Review of Health Interventions

The meeting included the presence of the Undersecretary for Primary Health Care, Dr. Ali Al-Walidi, and the Director General of Emergency and Ambulance Services, Dr. Mansour Al-Habishi. They reviewed a report on the ICRC’s interventions and programs in the health sector, highlighting current support areas and priority needs for the upcoming phase.

Acknowledgment of ICRC’s Role

Minister Bahibeh praised the ICRC’s role in supporting the health sector, particularly in emergency, surgical, and ambulance services. He emphasized the importance of directing more support to the most needy areas and health facilities, enhancing their readiness to handle emergencies and injuries.

Formation of a Joint Working Group

The Minister stressed the need to form a joint working group between the ministry and the ICRC to monitor needs, set priorities, and accelerate responses. He pointed out that the current phase requires strengthening surgical support, providing medications and medical supplies, enhancing emergency and ambulance services, and training health personnel.

Commitment to Effective Partnership

Minister Bahibeh confirmed the ministry’s commitment to developing an effective partnership with the ICRC based on joint planning, information exchange, and coordinated efforts. This approach aims to ensure that resources are directed according to actual needs.

ICRC’s Continued Support

For her part, Amira Krier outlined the nature of the ICRC’s interventions and health programs. She reaffirmed her commitment to continuing cooperation with the Ministry of Health and enhancing support for emergency services, injuries, and surgical services, focusing interventions on the most needy areas and facilities.

Agreement on Coordination Mechanisms

Both parties agreed to enhance coordination and activate a regular communication and follow-up mechanism. This collaboration aims to facilitate a rapid response to urgent needs and expand the scope of health services in affected areas.
