The Chargé d’Affaires of the Republic of Yemen to the United Nations Office in Nairobi, Abdul Salam Al-Awdi, met today with Inger Andersen, the United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme. They discussed ways to enhance funding for developmental and environmental projects in Yemen.
Al-Awdi highlighted the severe risks posed by the Houthi militia to international navigation and the marine environment in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab. He also pointed out the ongoing violations against civilians and the arbitrary detention of United Nations staff.
Inger Andersen emphasized the necessity of supporting Yemen across various sectors. She noted that the actions of the Houthi militia are unacceptable and pose a threat to both the environment and international navigation.
Andersen affirmed that Yemen deserves to live in security and peace, and she stated that the United Nations continues its efforts to promote peace and support stability in Yemen.
