Health Minister Dr. Qasem Baheeb chaired a comprehensive meeting today in the temporary capital, Aden. The meeting brought together partners from the health sector to discuss the current health and humanitarian situation in Yemen amid the Houthi escalation. This escalation has significantly impacted the population, health facilities, and services, resulting in increased casualties, displacement, and damage to various health assets.
During the meeting, attended by ministry officials, World Health Organization representative Dr. Syed Jafar, and representatives from international and local organizations, participants reviewed the current health indicators. They also discussed additional needs to enhance the readiness of health facilities, particularly in emergency departments, intensive care units, and ambulance services. Ensuring the continuous supply of medicines and medical supplies in affected areas was a key focus.
Minister Baheeb emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts between the ministry and its partners. He called for a unified approach to address the health and humanitarian repercussions of the Houthi escalation. Strengthening emergency response capabilities remains a priority during this critical phase.
The minister stressed the necessity of aligning efforts and directing resources based on actual needs on the ground. He highlighted the importance of enhancing coordination among health and humanitarian entities to ensure rapid response, protect lives, and maintain essential services, especially for the most vulnerable and displaced populations.
Representatives from the World Health Organization and participating organizations reaffirmed their commitment to ongoing coordination and partnership with the Ministry of Health. They emphasized the need to unify efforts to support the health sector and enhance its capacity to respond to urgent needs.
The meeting concluded with a series of proposals aimed at improving coordination among health sector partners. These proposals focus on bolstering the readiness of health facilities and emergency response capabilities to effectively address emerging health and humanitarian priorities.
