China evacuates over 31,000 people in Hainan as heavy rains continue and emergency level is raised.

### Chinese Authorities Evacuate Over 31,000 People in Hainan Amid Heavy Rainfall

Chinese authorities have evacuated more than 31,000 individuals from high-risk areas in Hainan Province, located in southern China. This action comes as heavy rainfall continues to affect large parts of the island, according to the Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Committee.

### Record Rainfall and Continued Forecasts

A total of 31,564 people have been relocated to safer areas. So far, there have been no reports of major disasters. From Friday morning to yesterday evening, rainfall exceeded 300 millimeters in 24 towns across six cities and counties. The town of Changfeng in Wanning City recorded the highest rainfall at 452.1 millimeters. Forecasts indicate that additional rainfall is expected throughout the day.

### Emergency Response Level Raised and Precautionary Measures Implemented

Hainan has raised its emergency response level for flood control to level two. Wanning City has activated a level one emergency response, the highest level in China’s emergency system. Authorities have ordered the closure of schools in the six affected cities and counties. Traffic controls have been imposed on roads impacted by the heavy rain.

### Additional Background

Hainan typically experiences significant impacts from tropical weather conditions. However, the recent rainfall amounts rank among the highest in recent years, prompting authorities to take extraordinary measures to protect residents and reduce risks.
