The Minister of Electricity and Energy launches new equipment to support rural electricity in collaboration with the World Bank.

Launch of New Equipment for Rural Electricity

Today, Minister of Electricity and Energy, Engineer Adnan Al-Kaf, officially launched new equipment and support systems aimed at enhancing rural electricity services. This initiative, funded by the World Bank through the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), seeks to improve the capacity of the General Authority for Rural Electricity to deliver better electrical services to rural areas.

Meeting with Leadership of the General Authority for Rural Electricity

Following the launch, Minister Al-Kaf convened a meeting with the leadership and staff of the General Authority for Rural Electricity. During this meeting, they reviewed the technical and administrative procedures necessary for the operation of the new equipment. The discussion also covered ongoing preparations for comprehensive field surveys in targeted villages and communities, which will facilitate the expansion of renewable energy systems through small and isolated electricity networks (Mini-grids).

Strategic Importance of the General Authority for Rural Electricity

Minister Al-Kaf emphasized the strategic importance of the General Authority for Rural Electricity as the government’s primary entity responsible for expanding electricity services in rural regions. He highlighted the need to complete the administrative structures of the authority, particularly the formation of a board of directors, to enhance institutional performance.

Additionally, Al-Kaf pointed out the authority’s crucial role in managing projects funded by international grants and loans. He stressed the importance of attracting private sector investments in the energy sector. These initiatives come at a critical time when Yemen needs to improve its energy infrastructure to support sustainable development and achieve economic stability.
