In a significant meeting held today in the temporary capital of Aden, Dr. Shadi Basra, Yemen’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology, engaged with Catherine Grameau, the French Ambassador to Yemen. The discussion focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation between Yemen and France, particularly in the telecommunications and information technology sectors.
During the meeting, both parties explored various forms of support aimed at developing Yemen’s telecommunications sector. They emphasized the importance of improving digital infrastructure and enhancing the quality of services provided to citizens. The Minister highlighted ongoing efforts to modernize the sector, which is crucial for economic recovery and improving essential services.
Dr. Basra provided an overview of the current situation in Yemen, detailing the government’s initiatives to achieve economic recovery and enhance institutional performance. He referenced his recent visits to the United Kingdom and Egypt, where he met with officials to discuss training and capacity-building for technical personnel in the telecommunications field.
The Minister stressed the need to broaden cooperation with France to support the Ministry’s plans for modernizing infrastructure and accelerating digital transformation. He pointed out the significant challenges facing the telecommunications sector amid current conditions and the urgent need for technical support and effective international partnerships.
In response, Ambassador Grameau praised the government’s reform efforts aimed at achieving stability. She reaffirmed France’s commitment to supporting Yemen in humanitarian and developmental areas, as well as its efforts to promote peace in the region.
In a separate meeting, Dr. Basra discussed institutional performance improvement plans with Wael Tarmoom, the Director General of the Public Telecommunications Corporation, and other specialists. They focused on enhancing telecommunications services and expanding infrastructure projects, including network upgrades and internet quality improvements.
Minister Basra emphasized the necessity of intensifying efforts to implement development plans and improve service delivery to citizens. He assured full support from the Ministry for the Corporation’s strategic projects and overcoming existing challenges.
This meeting marks a crucial step in fostering international partnerships that aim to revitalize Yemen’s telecommunications sector and improve the quality of life for its citizens.
