On Wednesday, President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi, head of the Presidential Leadership Council, welcomed Thomas Schneider, the German Ambassador to Yemen. This meeting aimed to enhance the bilateral relations between Yemen and Germany. The discussion focused on the current local situation and the necessary interventions from Germany and Europe to support Yemen’s governmental reform efforts.
During the meeting, President Alimi expressed his gratitude for Germany’s supportive stance towards the Yemeni people and their political leadership. He emphasized Germany’s pivotal role within the European Union in promoting national sovereignty and regional stability. Furthermore, President Alimi endorsed Germany’s bid for a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council, asserting that this would contribute to global security and peace.
The meeting also addressed regional developments and their implications for national, regional, and international stability. President Alimi highlighted Iran’s attempts to draw Yemen into broader conflicts through the use of Houthi militias and allied terrorist organizations. He stressed that the threats posed by Houthi militias to maritime security remain significant unless Iran’s control over parts of Yemen ends. The President called for a firm European stance to counter these threats, noting that the time has come to capitalize on the Iranian regime’s current setbacks to achieve lasting peace and stability in Yemen and the region.
Dr. Yahya Al-Shaibi, Director of the Presidential Office, and Deputy Ambassador Sofia Bujner also attended the meeting.
