In a significant meeting held today in the temporary capital of Aden, Dr. Shadi Basra, the Minister of Communications and Information Technology, engaged with directors and managers from various departments within the ministry. The discussion focused on enhancing institutional performance and strengthening the infrastructure of the communications and information technology sector amid the country’s challenging circumstances.
Minister Basra emphasized the importance of teamwork and the need for a clear priority list based on a realistic assessment of the challenges facing the ministry. He stated that the ministry is committed to utilizing all available resources to address existing issues, including the operations of companies functioning illegally within the communications sector. The minister highlighted the necessity of finding organized legal solutions and technological alternatives to boost revenues and improve the quality of services provided to citizens.
The minister also underscored the ministry’s commitment to improving employee conditions. He stressed the importance of continuous training and development programs to enhance the skills of the workforce. Dr. Basra expressed gratitude for the support received from Saudi Arabia, urging the ministry to make optimal use of this assistance in executing vital projects, developing digital infrastructure, and strengthening communication networks. He aims to establish a comprehensive and advanced model for the communications sector in Aden.
Dr. Basra addressed the significance of the postal sector, noting that the ministry operates a vast network of approximately 140 post offices staffed by a dedicated team. He called for the revitalization of this sector and the enhancement of its services to align with digital transformation. The minister highlighted the importance of involving the private sector in project implementation and service development to ensure efficiency. Additionally, he emphasized the role of cybersecurity units in protecting digital infrastructure and national data. The ministry plans to rehabilitate the Technical Institute for Communications to supply the market with qualified and specialized personnel.
Following the meeting, Minister Basra conducted an inspection tour of the ministry’s departments and sections, including the General Telecommunications Corporation and the Aden Net project. He listened to detailed explanations from officials regarding performance levels, workflow, and development needs. The minister directed the necessary actions to address challenges and enhance the quality of services offered to citizens.
