Minister Reviews Progress of Fisheries Authority in Aden

A Comprehensive Overview of Fisheries Operations

Today, Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Fisheries, Major General Salem Al-Saqtri, assessed the operational status of the General Authority for Fisheries in the Gulf of Aden. This visit aimed to evaluate the current activities and challenges faced by the authority.

Meeting with Authority Leadership

During the meeting with the authority’s leadership, Al-Saqtri discussed the organization’s conditions and the obstacles hindering its operations. He emphasized the importance of finding solutions to these challenges and enhancing the authority’s activities at the fish landing centers in the governorates of Aden, Lahij, and Abyan.

Investment in the Fisheries Sector

Minister Al-Saqtri stated, “Revitalizing investment in the fisheries sector requires building the capacities of the authority’s staff and improving its operations.” He highlighted the ministry’s efforts to gain the trust of international donors for funding fisheries projects, which he believes will significantly boost this vital sector.

Rehabilitation of Aden Fishing Port

The minister confirmed that the rehabilitation of the Aden fishing port, funded by the German government, is essential and will proceed without delay. He instructed the General Authority for Fisheries in the Gulf of Aden to coordinate with the ministry to develop an actionable plan for the port’s revitalization.

Ensuring Sustainable Development

Al-Saqtri stressed the importance of maintaining and developing the port to the required standards. He noted that the return of commercial fishing vessels would create opportunities for industrial fishing in regional waters. This initiative aims to provide job opportunities for youth, contributing to sustainable development and improving the living conditions of local residents.

By focusing on these key areas, the ministry aims to enhance the fisheries sector’s contribution to the economy and the community’s well-being.
