Urgent Appeal for Assistance
Prime Minister Salem Saleh Brik has urged Yemen’s international partners and donor organizations to maintain their support during this critical phase. He emphasized the importance of sustainable and flexible funding, as well as the need to enhance investment in priority sectors.
Meeting with International Partners
During a meeting on Tuesday with the Yemen Partners Group, Prime Minister Brik addressed representatives from various international and UN organizations. The discussion focused on supporting the government’s plan to boost economic recovery and address urgent priorities. In his opening remarks, he conveyed greetings from President Rashad Alimi and the members of the Presidential Leadership Council, expressing gratitude for their ongoing support. He also thanked the United Kingdom and the World Bank for their leadership in the Yemen Partners Group and highlighted the meeting’s significance in fostering effective coordination between the government and international partners.
Government Priorities and Economic Challenges
Prime Minister Brik outlined the government’s immediate priorities and expressed a commitment to collaborating with all partners to address the economic and service sector decline. He reaffirmed the government’s five key pathways: achieving peace, ending the coup, maintaining the state’s legal status, combating corruption, and enhancing transparency and accountability. Additionally, he stressed the importance of financial and administrative reforms, economic resource development, and optimal use of foreign aid and grants. He noted the complete alignment between the government’s plan and the directives of the Presidential Leadership Council, emphasizing ongoing coordination in policy-making and priority setting.
Addressing Economic Instability
The Prime Minister discussed current economic challenges and the impact of external factors on financial stability. He highlighted the urgent need for support to cover funding gaps. Brik reiterated the government’s commitment to combating corruption as a top priority. He mentioned that, in collaboration with the World Bank, the government is developing a policy for public-private partnerships, which will significantly impact infrastructure funding. He called for donor support to provide necessary financing and guarantees for these initiatives.

Brik reaffirmed the government’s dedication to strategic partnerships with all donors and the importance of coordination and collaboration to achieve shared goals. He expressed his eagerness to work effectively and collaboratively with Yemen’s partners to overcome current challenges.

Representatives from various donor countries and organizations congratulated Prime Minister Brik on his appointment and expressed confidence in his ability to lead the Yemeni government despite challenging circumstances. They noted that the meeting aimed to ensure alignment between efforts to support the Yemeni government and its priorities. They acknowledged the clear and important priorities outlined by the Prime Minister and emphasized the collaborative work required to coordinate support for implementing these priorities.
