The Operations Room of the “Masam” project for demining in Yemen announced that its teams successfully removed 2,656 landmines, unexploded ordnance, and improvised explosive devices from December 1 to December 19. This effort aims to secure areas affected by the remnants of war.
According to a statement from the Operations Room, the quantities removed during this period included 2,443 unexploded munitions, 192 anti-tank mines, 8 anti-personnel mines, and 13 improvised explosive devices.
The statement highlighted that the “Masam” teams removed 924 landmines and unexploded ordnance in the past week alone. This total comprised 864 unexploded munitions, 56 anti-tank mines, 1 anti-personnel mine, and 3 improvised explosive devices.
Additionally, field teams successfully cleared 319,930 square meters of land in Yemen during the same week. This brings the total area cleared since the beginning of December to 1,051,948 square meters.
Osama Al-Qusaybi, the project director, reported that since the project’s launch in June 2018 until December 19, 2025, the “Masam” teams have removed 529,116 landmines, unexploded ordnance, and improvised explosive devices.
The total includes 365,117 unexploded munitions, 8,342 improvised explosive devices, 148,657 anti-tank mines, and 7,000 anti-personnel mines. These types of mines pose a direct threat to civilian lives.
The statement also noted that the “Masam” project has successfully cleared 75,124,199 square meters of land in Yemen since its inception. This operation represents one of the largest demining efforts in the region.
