Recommendations for the UN General Assembly and Security Council

The committee detailed how the UN General Assembly and the Security Council can identify and implement specific measures to effectively conclude the occupation as swiftly as possible. They highlighted the importance of adhering to the International Court of Justice’s ruling from July and the UN General Assembly’s resolution passed on September 13, 2024.

Root Causes of Conflict

Naomi Pillay, the chair of the committee, stated, “The root cause of the prolonged conflict and cycles of violence is the Israeli occupation.” Her remarks underscore the urgent need to address the foundational issues contributing to ongoing tensions in the region.

Obligations of Israel and the International Community

• Ensuring that no country recognizes Jerusalem as Israel’s capital or establishes diplomatic missions there.
• Rejecting any claim of Israeli sovereignty over the occupied territories.
