Minister of Health and Governor of Hadhramaut Launch International Conference on Healthcare Challenges

Today, Dr. Qassem Baheeb, the Minister of Public Health and Population, along with Hadhramaut Governor Mabkhoot bin Madi, inaugurated the first international conference focused on healthcare challenges in Mukalla. The event attracted 500 medical professionals from various sectors across the country.

Conference Overview

This two-day conference, taking place in November, marks the first of its kind in Yemen. The Yemeni Council for Medical and Health Specialties in the coastal region of Hadhramaut organized the event under the supervision of the Higher Medical Council of Yemen. Local authorities in Hadhramaut sponsored and funded the conference.

Key Topics of Discussion

The conference will address a range of challenges impacting healthcare across various specialties, including internal medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, public health, and general surgery. Participants will hear from a distinguished group of researchers and specialists who will present approximately 32 scientific papers. These papers will explore issues such as adapting to modern technology, adhering to medical laws and regulations, safeguarding medical information, understanding patient needs, and addressing the shortage of medical personnel and their compensation amid a growing population.

Focus on Human Resources in Healthcare

The conference will also delve into discussions about the state of healthcare human resources, the current landscape of healthcare professionals, and the strategic development of these resources. The Yemeni Council for Medical Specialties plays a crucial role in enhancing the skills and capabilities of healthcare workers.

Insights from Conference Leaders

Professor Amir Balafair, the head of the Yemeni Council for Medical and Health Specialties in Hadhramaut and the conference’s preparatory committee chair, highlighted the conference’s agenda. It includes 32 scientific papers, two discussion panels, and three workshops aimed at addressing challenges to improve healthcare quality. He expressed gratitude to the local leadership in Hadhramaut, particularly Governor Mabkhoot bin Madi, for their commitment to supporting educational continuity and enhancing the healthcare sector.

Research Highlights

The conference will showcase research focusing on critical healthcare issues, such as the misuse of medications, including antibiotics, which can lead to severe blood component deficiencies. Other topics include acute renal failure post-delivery, cerebellar strokes, the importance of routine examinations for accurate diagnoses, and the role of healthcare professionals in preventing and treating chronic kidney failure. Additionally, the conference will address complications related to high blood sugar, patient safety, hypertension among school teachers, hepatitis virus concerns, and the significance of vaccinations.

This conference represents a significant step forward in addressing the pressing healthcare challenges facing Yemen, fostering collaboration among medical professionals, and enhancing the quality of care for patients across the nation.
