Today, Yemen took part in a significant seminar focused on the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) role in addressing crimes committed by Israeli authorities in the occupied Palestinian territories. The Yemeni delegation was led by Dr. Ali Mousa, the acting permanent representative of Yemen to the Arab League.
The seminar, hosted at the Arab League’s headquarters, spans two days and is organized by the Palestine and Arab Territories Sector in collaboration with the Arab Center for Legal and Judicial Research. Participants will discuss the ICC’s vital role as a cornerstone of international justice. The discussions will emphasize the need to activate the court’s mechanisms to hold Israeli authorities accountable, both at the leadership and soldier levels, for their actions and to prevent them from evading justice.
The seminar will also explore strategies for implementing decisions made by the International Court of Justice and the ICC. Participants aim to transition towards applying international sanctions and utilizing various pressure tools to pursue accountability for both state and non-state actors. This includes leveraging international organizations and community institutions to address the ongoing humanitarian crisis.
The seminar highlights the alarming situation in Gaza, where the Israeli military has been accused of committing acts of genocide since October 7, 2023. These actions represent a severe violation of international humanitarian law, prompting urgent calls for accountability and justice.
