Minister Discusses Collaboration with ILO for Youth and Women Empowerment

On Thursday, Youth and Sports Minister Nayef Al-Bakri met with the International Labour Organization (ILO) Country Coordinator in Jordan, Amal Muwafi. The discussion focused on enhancing cooperation, particularly in programs aimed at supporting and empowering youth and women politically and economically.

Importance of Partnership

During the meeting, which included Dr. Munir Mana’a, the Deputy Minister for Youth, and Ali Ben Ali Dhahak, the ILO Program Coordinator in Yemen, Minister Al-Bakri emphasized the need for a partnership between the ministry and the ILO. He highlighted the potential for opening new avenues for collaboration that align with the aspirations of Yemen’s youth in areas such as education, training, and empowerment. Al-Bakri also reviewed several projects that the ministry has implemented in collaboration with various international and local organizations in the youth and women’s sectors.

Addressing Youth Needs

Al-Bakri pointed out that youth constitute the largest demographic group in Yemen. He stressed the necessity of providing support and creating safe spaces for them to express their ideas, aspirations, and concerns without fear. He welcomed any suggestions or visions from the ILO that could strengthen the ministry’s plans and programs, especially those focused on youth and women.

Goals of the ILO Visit

Muwafi explained that the purpose of her visit and meeting with the ministry leaders was to assess the key needs and interventions the ILO could support. She emphasized the importance of building youth capacities and creating sustainable job opportunities in both the short and long term.

Future Collaboration

Both parties agreed to outline the necessary concepts for signing a memorandum of understanding. This agreement aims to implement several joint programs that will further support youth and women in Yemen.

In conclusion, the collaboration between the Youth and Sports Ministry and the ILO promises to enhance opportunities for youth and women, addressing critical needs in education, training, and economic empowerment.
