Lebanese President Joseph Aoun views the recent framework agreement between Lebanon and Israel, facilitated by the United States, as a pivotal first step towards reclaiming full Lebanese sovereignty over its territories. He emphasized that this agreement represents the beginning of reaping the rewards of the sacrifices made by the Lebanese people to liberate their land from occupation and dependency.
President Aoun reiterated Lebanon’s determination to continue its efforts until complete liberation is achieved. He expressed gratitude to both friendly and allied nations that have supported Lebanon’s stance in this matter. Furthermore, he acknowledged the essential role of international support in realizing Lebanese sovereignty.
Lebanon’s Prime Minister, Nawaf Salam, clarified that the primary goal of the framework agreement is to ensure Israel’s withdrawal from all Lebanese territories, thereby restoring the state’s sovereignty. He highlighted that the agreement aligns with the provisions of the Taif Agreement and is reinforced by United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701, which calls for the state’s authority to extend over all lands through its armed forces.
Lebanese officials underscored the significance of regional and international collaboration in bolstering Lebanon’s efforts to regain its sovereignty. They noted that this initiative aims to enhance security and stability in the region, reflecting Lebanon’s commitment to the principles of sovereignty and international law.
The Lebanese populace harbors hopes that the framework agreement will lead to improved conditions within the country, restoring security and stability. This optimism underscores the collective aspiration of the Lebanese people for a future free from occupation and external interference. The restoration of Lebanese sovereignty remains a top priority for both the government and its citizens.
