The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates strongly condemned the terrorist attack launched by Houthi militias, backed by the Iranian regime, on Aden International Airport early today. The attack involved two ballistic missiles and explosive-laden drones, coinciding with the approach of a civilian flight for landing, putting the lives of passengers and airport personnel at direct risk.
The ministry held the Houthi militias fully accountable for the assault and its repercussions. It emphasized that targeting this civilian facility, which serves Yemenis from various provinces, represents a serious escalation and a blatant violation of international humanitarian law and civil aviation protection rules.
The ministry highlighted that this attack reinforces the terrorist approach of the militia, which previously manifested in the bombing of Aden Airport during the government’s arrival in December 2020, as well as repeated assaults on Saudi airports. Additionally, the militia has disrupted flights through Sana’a Airport and detained Yemenia Airlines aircraft.
The ministry asserted that this approach uses intimidation of civilians and their suffering as a means of extortion and aims to disrupt state institutions. It praised the efforts of the relevant authorities to secure the airport and protect travelers and aircrew. The ministry affirmed that targeting civilian institutions will not deter the state from safeguarding its citizens and ensuring the safety of air navigation and the right to secure travel.
The ministry warned that the attack threatens the safety of regional and international civil aviation. It called on the United Nations Security Council and the international community to condemn the attack and take practical measures to prevent its recurrence. The ministry urged accountability for all those who planned or participated in the execution of this assault, ensuring that they do not escape punishment. It also called on the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and relevant organizations to enhance airport and civil aviation protection measures.
The ministry reiterated that ending the coup, restoring state institutions, and disarming the militias are essential to protect civilians and ensure the security of Yemen and its neighbors. It urged the international community to support the Republic of Yemen in asserting its sovereignty over its entire territory and to back its sovereign right to restrict weapons to its legitimate institutions.
