Foreign Minister Discusses Houthi Escalation and Displaced Persons’ Needs

Foreign Minister and Expatriates Affairs, Dr. Afrah Al-Zuba, met today in the temporary capital of Aden with the head of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) mission in Yemen, Abdulsttar Aisyuf. They discussed the implications of the recent escalation by Houthi terrorist militias and explored ways to enhance the response to the needs of displaced individuals and affected communities, particularly in the western coast regions.

During the meeting, which also included State Minister Walid Al-Abara, Minister Al-Zuba emphasized the importance of expanding the organization’s interventions in liberated governorates. She called for these efforts to align with actual needs and coordinate with relevant government agencies. Key areas of focus include shelter, protection, support for local authorities, and host communities, as well as linking emergency responses to recovery programs. She reiterated the government’s commitment to facilitating the organization’s work and enabling access to the most vulnerable populations.

Al-Zuba stressed the necessity of protecting humanitarian workers and preserving the civilian nature of international organizations’ operations. She urged a clear stance against Houthi violations concerning United Nations premises and personnel, ensuring the continuation of their humanitarian missions.

In response, Aisyuf outlined the organization’s efforts in monitoring displacement, assessing needs, and providing emergency assistance. He highlighted their field activities in Aden, Marib, and the western coast. Aisyuf confirmed the organization’s readiness to enhance response efforts and coordinate with the government and partners to ensure that aid reaches those in need safely and effectively.
