MUKALLA, Yemen – Al-Riyan International Airport in Mukalla welcomed its first flight today, marking a significant milestone in the resumption of air travel. The flight connected Aden, Al-Riyan, and Socotra, ending a multi-year hiatus and signaling a revival of aviation activity in the region.
Upon arrival, the airport buzzed with excitement. Passengers and crew expressed their joy at the resumption of operations. Many highlighted the reopening of the airport as a crucial step in alleviating the hardships faced by citizens. Additionally, they noted its potential to invigorate economic and tourism activities along the Hadramaut coast.
The resumption of domestic flights coincides with ongoing preparations to launch international routes from Al-Riyan Airport. The Civil Aviation Authority is actively working on a comprehensive plan to rehabilitate and operate Yemeni airports. This initiative aims to enhance international connectivity and facilitate passenger movement.
The return of both domestic and international flights is expected to stimulate commercial and humanitarian activities. Furthermore, it will bolster Hadramaut’s status as a vital economic and tourism hub within Yemen.
