A Lebanese official has announced that the eighth round of negotiations between Lebanon and Israel will take place in Rome in October, following a postponement from September.

The official informed Qatar News Agency (QNA) that the United States officially notified Lebanon of the new meeting date as part of the ongoing negotiation process that began in April.

Upcoming Meeting in Washington

The source also mentioned an anticipated meeting this week at the U.S. Department of State. This meeting will involve the ambassadors of Lebanon and Israel to the United States, focusing on developments in Lebanon and the implementation of the framework agreement reached in June.

Progress of Negotiations So Far

Negotiations commenced in April under U.S. sponsorship. So far, seven rounds have occurred, addressing key issues such as:

• Establishing a ceasefire
• Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory
• Deployment of the Lebanese army in the south

The sixth round took place in Rome in July, following five rounds in Washington. The Italian capital hosted the seventh round in August, which concentrated on the mechanisms for implementing the framework agreement, particularly regarding the Israeli withdrawal, the establishment of experimental zones, and the deployment of the Lebanese army.

Outstanding Issues

Several critical issues remain unresolved in the negotiations, including:

• Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon
• Mechanism for the deployment of the Lebanese army
• Security guarantees

These topics continue to dominate discussions within the negotiation framework.
