The Family Budget Survey in Aden concludes, conducted in collaboration with the World Bank.

Central Statistical Organization Concludes Ten-Day Training on Household Budget Survey

The Central Statistical Organization (CSO) in Aden, Yemen, recently wrapped up a ten-day series of events in collaboration with a team from the World Bank. These events included discussions and training sessions focused on the Household Budget Survey (HBS), which aims to assess income and expenditure patterns among households.

Focus Areas of the Training

The training sessions concentrated on several key areas. Participants explored the survey questionnaire, data analysis methods, and the software tools used for data collection. Additionally, the role of the Geographic Information System (GIS) team within the CSO was highlighted, emphasizing its importance in enhancing data accuracy and accessibility.

Addressing Changing Consumption Patterns

Dr. Safaa Ma’ti, the head of the CSO, explained that the survey responds to shifting consumption patterns and the rising inflation of the consumer price index. She noted that the commodity weights based on the 2014 survey no longer accurately reflect current realities. Dr. Ma’ti underscored the significance of two major projects: the population census and the Household Budget Survey. She expressed optimism about the imminent implementation of the comprehensive census.

World Bank Team Commends Local Efforts

The World Bank team praised the collaborative spirit and technical excellence demonstrated by the CSO staff. They expressed their commitment to overcoming future challenges and contributing to sustainable development in Yemen. This partnership aims to enhance the country’s statistical capabilities, ultimately supporting informed decision-making and policy development.

In conclusion, the successful completion of this training marks a significant step towards improving data collection and analysis in Yemen, paving the way for more effective economic planning and resource allocation.
